Dr Martens, evergreen boots.

Dr. Martens is a well-known British footwear brand. These boots were designed during World War II by Klaus Märtens, a doctor in the German army. In 1945 he injured his ankle while he was skiing. He couldn't wear his standard-issue army boots because they were too uncomfortable. This is the reason why he designed improvements to the boots,  with soft leather and air-padded soles.
Märtens didn't have much success selling his shoes until 1947, when he met up with an old university friend, Dr. Herbert Funck. They started to use discarded rubber from Luftwaffeairfields for the soles. In 1959, the company had grown large enough that Märtens and Funck looked at marketing the footwear internationally. The British shoe manufacturer R. Griggs Group Ltd. bought patentrights to produce the shoes in the UK.
The first Dr. Martens boots in the UK (the "1460" eight-eye boot) came out on 1 April 1960. These boots were popular among workers such as postmenpolice officers and factory workers.
During the 60s DM became a symbol of British subcultures and  its relationship with music became more entwined. Pete Townshend, the Who's guitarist, started to wear DM to show his working class origins, wearing the ‘1460’ boot as a badge of working class honour.
By the early 1970s, skinheads started wearing them, and by the late 1980s, they were popular among punks.
DM are still in vogue today and they are considered as evergreen overshoes.
So when you wear these boots, don't forget you are donning a piece of history! J.S.
